8 Steps to Wall Mount Your TV

You might be wondering If I’ve already decided to hire professionals, then what good would it do to know the steps?

Well, it helps to know the steps involved because then you’ll have an idea about what the technician is doing when they’re mounting your TV.

You can observe how they do it and maybe you can DIY in the future if needed.

So, that being said, here are eight steps to wall mount your TV:

1. Examine Your TV

To wall mount a TV, the first step you have to take is to examine it to make sure that it’s mountable. Most TVs these days are, but it doesn’t hurt to make sure.

For those who don’t know what VESA compatible is, it’s a standard that’s used for wall mounting systems and TV wall mounts.

It’s been adopted by most TV brands these days. If your TV is VESA-compatible, then you’ll notice that it has four holes in a rectangular pattern on its back.

If your TV is indeed compatible, then you’ll have to choose a TV wall mount that fits the specific VESA hole pattern.

2. Selecting Your Wall Mount

The next step is to figure out which type of TV wall mount will best suit the space you’re setting it in and how you prefer to watch your television.

There are numerous styles you can choose from such as ceiling, tilted, swivel, corner, sliding, fixed, and full motion.

Find out which style will best suit your needs and go from there.

3. Pick Your Location

Consider the location you want your TV to be in. Keep in mind that once the TV is secured on the wall, it’s going to be difficult to move it.

So when we say you have to think about the location, you really have to consider the long-term use and how it’ll fit with your space.

Don’t forget to consider the location of the sun throughout the day and the glare from lights as well.

For instance, if you consider your living room, you’ll want your TV to be set at approximately eye height or a little higher when you’re seated and right in front of your couch.

You also have to consider the location of your power and TV wall points.

If they are positioned on a wall different from where you’re planning to mount it, then you’ll have to get additional points installed first to avoid dealing with tangled cords.

4. Locate the Studs

For this next step, you’ll have to find the studs on the wall. For those who don’t know, studs are vertical boards of framing built inside your walls to support them.

Between your TV and the mounting wall, you’ll probably have somewhere between 20-25 kg hanging on your wall.

So, attaching the TV bracket to the wall studs is a vital step.

To locate the studs, you can use a stud finder or gently tap on the wall with a hammer and listen for when it’s solid.

Mark the location and move on to the next step.

5. Securing the Bracket to the Wall

Now it’s time to secure the wall bracket to the wall where you want to mount your TV.

If you’re going for a DIY approach, you’ll have to use bolts. These usually come with a wall mounting kit.

The bolts help to keep the brackets secured through the wall studs.

You also have to use a spirit level to make sure if your bracket is sitting straight or not.

6. Attach the Mounting Components to Your TV

Now that you’ve secured the wall bracket, it’s time to move on to attaching the mounting rails onto the back of your TV.

Be sure to match it up with the VESA holes.

If the TV wall mount is the correct type for your TV, then this should fit in perfectly without causing any hassle.

7. Time to Hang the TV

For this almost-final step, you have to connect the mountain rails that are attached to your TV to the wall bracket.

How you hang the TV will depend on the type of wall mount you’ve chosen.

If you have a basic, fixed TV wall mount, then you can just slide the TV downwards onto the bracket till it connects.

After that, you’ll have to screw in the additional safety screws to make sure that the TV is secured and set in place.

Keep in mind, if you’re installing a heavy or large TV, then it’s best to ask for someone’s help instead of attempting to do it alone.

It’s better to be safe than sorry!

There are no shortages of same day TV mounting service providers. They should be able to install your television on the same day that you contact them.

However, good TV mounting experts do work on a first-come-first-served basis.

Try to make an early appointment, then sit back and relax, as they get the job done!

8. Connect Your Cables and Clean up!

Finally, we’ve reached the last step. Now all you have to do is connect the cables to conclude your TV wall mounting service.

This includes connecting the power cable, sound systems, any antenna connections, and consoles that you’d normally connect to your TV.

It’s best to contain all the cords and cables behind the wall you mounted your TV on. But if this isn’t possible, then you can use cord covers instead.

Remember to do a quick clean-up, and that’s it, your TV wall mounting is done! Now all you have to do is sit back and enjoy.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, we’d like to say that while it can be confusing and overwhelming to mount a TV on a wall, especially if you have no prior experience, we hope the steps we provided will make things easier for you to understand.

There’s no shame in hiring a service provider to do it for you as it does take the load off your shoulders.

So whichever way you decide to choose, don’t forget to let us know in the comments below how it worked out for you!
