Tips on How to Save Electricity & Reduce Bills
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Consumers shudder to think about how much their utility provider will charge for their monthly electricity or gas consumption.

Consumers can consult a Utility Bidder to help them choose the right utility provider.

In the long run, consumers will have to take practical steps to ensure that they achieve savings on their electricity bills.

Here we look at some of the steps consumers can take to guarantee savings on their electricity bills.

1. Replace Obsolete Appliances With Energy-efficient Versions

Electricity consumed by electrical appliances accounts for a major portion of the consumption registered in an electricity bill.

The latest appliances have energy efficiency ratings which provide information on how the latest appliances are so electrically efficient in their performance.

Energy efficiency is rated on a ranking from A+++ up to G.

An appliance with an A+++ rating is the most energy-efficient appliance in its energy consumption and functioning.

Older appliances could have a lower energy efficiency rating.

This means that they consume unnecessarily excessive energy to perform the same task as a newer model of an appliance.

According to the Energy Efficiency Regulations, landlords need to ensure that their property has an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E before renting their property.

Consumers will be able to make savings on their electricity bills by replacing older appliances with newer models.

2. Turn Off Appliances From the Mains

A laptop, TV screen, stereo system, computer, tablet, or mobile phone will go on standby when they are connected to the mains but not being used.

These devices may be switched off, but as long as they are connected to the main supply, they are still consuming electricity.

This is the time when some of these appliances or devices might be performing software updates, downloading unnecessary content, or simply consuming energy that will contribute to your monthly electricity bill.

In some cases, these devices or appliances might also be incurring internet charges even when they are not being used.

There are smart plug adaptors in the market that can be managed remotely with the help of a smartphone application.

This means that you no longer need to move heavy furniture just to get to the electrical outlet.

With the help of the application, you can set on and off timers for these devices based on your usage.

The best part is that you can control your electricity consumption with the help of the application.

3. Renovating Home Insulation

Living in England & Wales, heating your home is one of the most significant contributors to your electricity consumption.

You might have the latest heating system, but without having the proper insulation installed, all the heating is going right out of the window or any other open doors.

One way to ensure that you do not strain your heating system is to install weather stripping or sealant materials on the largest windows and doors of your property.

Investing in home insulation will be expensive for a large property but the contribution will pay off rapidly by lowering your overall monthly electricity consumption.
